Brian T. Shea ’83TCB, ’16HON is the former Vice Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Investment Services at BNY Mellon, where he also oversaw global enterprise operations and technology for the firm. BNY Mellon is a leading global provider of investment management and services and is the world’s largest custodian of financial assets. Mr. Shea previously served sequentially as Chairman, Chief Executive Officer, and President and Chief Operating Officer of Pershing LLC, a provider of investment, technology, and business solutions for broker dealers, registered investment advisors, and hedge funds in the United States, the United Kingdom, Ireland, and Australia.

Mr. Shea currently serves on several boards. He is a member of the Board of Directors of Fidelity National Information Systems, Inc. (FIS), Ameriprise Financial, Inc. and the RBB Fund, Inc. In addition, Mr. Shea previously served on the Board of Directors of Wisdom Tree Investments, Inc., the Depository Trust & Clearing Corporation and the Insured Retirement Institute. Mr. Shea was also a member of the Board of Governors of the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority, Inc. (FINRA), where he served on its Dispute Resolution Board. He served as Chairman of FINRA's National Adjudicatory Council and Membership Committee. Mr. Shea also served as Chairman of the Membership Committee of the Securities Industry and Financial Markets Association, and twice received the Chairman's Award for distinguished service.

Mr. Shea is dedicated to the University, its mission, and the larger work of the Catholic Church here and abroad. He currently serves on the Board of Trustees of St. John's University; as chair of the Board of St. John’s University’s Institute for Catholic Schools; the Board of Catholic Charities, Archdiocese of New York; and on the Board of the Tomorrow’s Hope Foundation; and as Vice Chair of the Board of the Catholic Community Foundation of Long Island, Inc. Mr. Shea also serves as chair of the International Business Leaders’ Advisory Council for the Program of Church Management at the Pontifical University of the Holy Cross in Rome.

He previously served on the Board of Governors of St. John’s University; as Chair of the Bishops Advisory Committee for Catholic Education in the Diocese of Rockville Centre, NY; as Chair and member of the School Board at St. Joseph School in Garden City, NY; as Chair of the Board of Notre Dame School in New Hyde Park, NY; and as Chair of the Regional School Board for District 4 in the Diocese of Rockville Centre.

Patricia M. Shea ’83C worked as an accountant for Time Inc., before leaving in 1988 to dedicate herself to the development and growth of the couple's four children. She served as a parent volunteer at Notre Dame School; St. Joseph School; Sacred Heart Academy in Hempstead, NY; and Chaminade High School in Mineola, NY. Mrs. Shea and her husband currently serve on the Villanova University Parents’ Executive Committee.

They graduated together from St. John’s University in 1983; Mrs. Shea earned her Bachelor of Arts in Government and Politics while Mr. Shea earned his Bachelor of Science in Business Management. He went on to earn an M.B.A. in Finance from Pace University, and an Honorary Ph.D. in Commercial Science from St. John’s University.

The Sheas share a deep passion for service. They have been honored for their service by St. John’s University with the Spirit of Service Award (2007) and Fidelitas Award (2008), by the Tomorrow’s Hope Foundation (2009), and by Catholic Charities, Archdiocese of New York (2016). They are most proud of their children: Erin and son-in-law Patrick Murray, Faith, Brendan, and Daniel Shea—all of whom were educated in the Catholic faith at all levels.
